A law firm operates under two parallel pressures: a vast, constantly changing body of statutes and case law, and the absolute confidentiality owed to client files — putting client data on a public cloud platform can be seen as a breach of attorney–client privilege. On top of that, senior lawyers' time is expensive, yet much of it goes to repetitive lookup rather than deep analysis.
The biggest risk of using an ordinary AI in this field is "hallucination" — confidently citing the wrong statute or the wrong case, which in law is never just a technical error but a genuine professional risk.
A RAG system for legal and case-law lookup, built on the firm's own document library, can shorten the time to research an issue from 2–4 hours to 10–15 minutes, with a source-citation accuracy rate above 95% — because the system is only allowed to answer from real documents, never from inference. In another application, contract review and legal due diligence can be shortened from 3–6 hours to 20–30 minutes per contract, meaningfully lowering the rate of overlooked unfavourable clauses.
The entire process runs on the firm's own infrastructure — client files never leave the system, keeping the core confidentiality principle of the legal profession fully intact.
